Scotland are waiting for an update on Scott McTominay after the midfielder missed training on Thursday due to an upset stomach.
The Napoli player travelled with the squad from their camp in Charlotte to Boston, but he was not on the team bus when it reached the hotel. Instead, the 29-year-old continued separately with a doctor, reportedly as a precaution.
McTominay has been one of Scotland’s key players in recent years and remains central to Steve Clarke’s plans. Scotland begin their first World Cup campaign in 28 years against Haiti on Saturday evening at Boston Stadium in Foxborough. They will also meet Morocco and Brazil in the group stage.
The midfielder has scored 15 goals in 70 appearances for his country and was on target in Scotland’s 4-0 win over Bolivia last Saturday.
With large numbers of Scotland supporters arriving in Boston, fans will be eager to hear more when Clarke speaks to the media on Friday.
Teammate Kenny McLean said he hoped the illness would not spread through the squad and expected McTominay to recover. He added that while Scotland always rely on the whole team, players of McTominay’s quality are the kind every side wants available.
